scrumptious saturday:: caramel brownies

photo by bakeorbreak.com

Oh these brownies are heaven! And oh so easy. I will be making these often. I first experienced these caramel delights at a birthday party and asked my sweet friend Mairin for the recipe. Then I started searching the web just to find a similar recipe on one of my favorite baking blogs. I made this recipe for my "treat day" at work and they were gone before I could snap a photo. I have consumed way, way too many of these. I must hit the gym extra hard. I'm feeling sick!

caramel brownies

1 german chocolate cake mix (I used Devil's Food cake mix)
3/4 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup evaporated milk (I used cream)

14 oz caramels (I used Mrs. Richardson's caramel ice cream topping instead of caramels and evap. milk)
1/3 cup evaporated milk

6 oz chocolate chips

Peel caramels and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir in 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Heat and stir until all caramels are melted.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) Grease a 9x13 inch pan.

In a large mixing bowl, mix together cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, melted butter. Place 1/2 of the batter in prepared baking pan.

Bake for 6 minutes.

Remove brownies from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Drizzle caramel sauce over chocolate chips. Remove brownie mix from refrigerator. Place other half cake mix on top of the caramel sauce until the top is completely covered.

Bake for an additional 15 minutes. Remove and let cool.

I was one of the lucky people that helped those brownies vanish at work - I vouch for their deliciousness! I'm going to start calling you Betty Crocker, Jess!

wow, these look real yummy. reminds me of one of my favorite recipes "carmelitas" - one you must try if you like caramel.
anyway, thanks for your nice comment on our spare bedroom...the canvas is just painted - thought about covering it with fabric, but decided to go the cheap route.
ps. you are very talented! love all the things you have done recently.
