jessie alexis gift cards

How cute is this? One of my very favorite clients asked me to design a gift card for her photography business. I LOVE this idea, in fact, it's inspired me to design some for JP Creative. Back to the design at hand... I designed a logo for her a few months ago and she wanted to keep with the same colors, of course and maybe add a great pattern. I think these turned out so well. She is going to package them in a little box with a beautiful ribbon. What a gift! If you are interested in a fabulous holiday gift check out Jessie's blog and contact her. You will love working with her!

friday faves: hostess with the mostess

I dream of hosting fabulous parties, complete with a theme, fabulous food and great favors, of course. I also dream of a house built for hosting. We love our mini apartment, but someday, more space would be nice. Are you familiar with hostess with the mostess? You're going to LOVE it! Parties are organized by theme and include food and decor to match. Love it! Check it out! And maybe glean some inspiration for your next "event"!

things I adore: sewing projects... like this apron

You know I love aprons, right? And I am a sucker for cute fabric. This fabric has been tucked away for the perfect project. I was so excited when the ladies from my church were making aprons at a "super saturday" activity. I brought this fabric combo and my very mediocre sewing skills and left with a pretty cute little apron. I am so excited to sew more! I need some serious practice!

PS don't mind the pretty crappy photo. It's hard to show off unless I'm wearing it.

scrumptious saturday:: tortilla soup

Oh the crock pot! Gotta love it, right? It's the convenience tool in our kitchens.

5 Favorite crock pot uses:
1. recipes from a year of slow cooking
2. alfredo, delicious and SO not healthy
3. keep fondue warm during a party
4. french dip from here
5. cook chicken breast for enchiladas, soups, etc.

How do you use your crock pot? Favorite recipes? Please share!

This is one of my favorite crock pot recipes. It's soup weather, so try this! This recipe comes from a great cooking blog Real Mom Kitchen. Best thing about this recipe is that you can really improvise. You'll notice my notes below.

Crock Pot Chicken Tortilla Soup

1 can black beans, drained
1 can corn, drained
1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz size)
1 packet enchilada or taco sauce mix (I never have this, so I just mix up some mexican spices like cumin, chili powder, cayenne, garlic, paprika)
1 1/2 C water
1 can (8 oz)tomato sauce
1 can ( 10 3/4 oz) cream of chicken soup
2 C milk
3-4 boneless chicken breasts (I only used 2 chicken breasts)

In crock pot, mix the enchilada packet together with the water and tomato sauce. Add cream of chicken soup and milk and whisk together until smooth. Add chicken. Pour drained black beans, drained corn and diced tomatoes on top of that.Cook on low 6-8 hours.Before serving, take out chicken and shred or dice, then put back and stir it all together. Serve with sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, lime, avocado, and tortilla chips.

friday faves: design sponge

Design Sponge was one of the first blogs I started reading and I still love every bit of inspiration they post. It's one of those blogs that updates so well, so often, that it's hard to keep up. You are going to love the before and after projects, the "sneak peek", featuring beautiful homes, the "dear design sponge" and all the other goodness they share. I especially love the AMAZING site design. This is one of those blogs I read on the actual site and not in the reader because I love the layout! Are you a design sponge reader? If not, check it out. You'll love it!

logo design:: archimedes engineering

I am so happy with the way this logo came together. I love that it is more interesting than most engineering firm logos, but still very professional. I think my favorite element has got to be the faint grid in the background. What do you think?

chair before and after

Thank you for inquiring about the chair. I'm glad you like it as much as I do. I thought I would post a before and after to show the transformation and tell the "story." I think Shannon (the amazing Design Gal) said she found the chair at the DI. She sent me photos of the chair and also of a few fabric swatches, at which point I decided on the black and white damask, which I love! Then we discussed paint color/finishing. She said we could leave it natural, paint it, distress it. I decided on black. LOVE how this turned out.
